Data Science Speaker Travel Awards

Funded for 2020

  • Betsy DiSalvo (IC): Data Work Civic Engagement Panel
  • Diyi Yang (IC): Natural Language Processing/Computational Social Science Seminar

This program supports visits of external experts to GT campus in the areas of data science foundations, or data-driven discovery in any area including the sciences, engineering, arts, humanities, and social sciences. Funds can be used to bring in a speaker as part of the Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) seminar series, or to be part of any other on-campus event, conference, or seminar series. The event itself need not be focused on data science, but the invited lecture should be. Travel awards of up to $1,000 each can be used to cover incurred expenses, including airfare, ground transportation, hotel, and meals. Travel expenses must adhere to GT policies.

Applications can be submitted by individual faculty, students, or a person acting on behalf of groups or events. It is expected that the person submitting the application will work with the visitor and act as a host. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis, but eligible travel must take place before June 1, 2020.
